Overview

When you change a booking in Central-Ops, the system automatically determines how those changes should affect the associated jobs. This ensures that operations staff are kept informed when changes impact their scheduling, while also minimising unnecessary disruption for minor updates.

Some changes are copied to the existing jobs and keep their allocations; others delete and regenerate the jobs, or add and remove only the jobs affected.

Changes that keep the jobs

These changes leave the booking's jobs, and their driver and vehicle allocations, in place:

Changes to the routes

Any change to a trip's routes regenerates that trip's jobs: a date, an arrive or depart time, a location, the order of the stops, or a stop added or removed. Each job is deleted and created again, without its driver and vehicle allocation.

Changes to the vehicles

Change Effect on the jobs
More vehicles of a type A job is added for each extra vehicle. The existing jobs are kept.
Fewer vehicles of a type Jobs are deleted for the vehicles removed. The rest are kept.
A different vehicle type, a vehicle removed, or a different option chosen The jobs for the old vehicle are deleted and jobs are created for the new one.
Staff Member Requirements or Vehicle Requirements added or changed A job whose allocated driver or vehicle does not meet the new requirement is regenerated. Other jobs are kept.

Adding or removing a trip

A trip added to the booking has its jobs created. A trip removed has its jobs deleted. A trip cannot be removed while one of its jobs is in progress or completed.

The regenerated jobs email

When jobs are deleted or regenerated, an email lists those starting within the next 14 days, with the driver, vehicle or subcontractor that was allocated, so Operations can reallocate them. It goes to the Recipients under Regenerated Jobs Due To Booking Changes on Operations → Configuration → Operations Settings, when Send Emails? is Yes.

Jobs in progress or completed

If a job on the trip is in progress, no job on that trip is deleted or regenerated. The jobs that would have been are flagged Needs Verification instead, shown as a red triangle beside the job number on the Jobs page and in the Charter Diary. Jobs for extra vehicles are still added.

If a job on the trip is completed, the completed job is kept, and a change to the routes, vehicles or options flags every other job on the trip Needs Verification. No jobs are added, deleted or regenerated on that trip.

❕Note: A job is in progress when tablet progress has been recorded against it and it is not yet completed.

Handling changes to Complex Bookings & avoiding job regeneration

For complex bookings like a cruise ship shuttle service where multiple jobs have been split to allow for drivers taking breaks while other drivers take over, making a major change can cause all associated jobs to be regenerated. This may require significant rework to split the jobs again and reallocate drivers and vehicles.

If you only need to make a simple change like adjusting a start time, consider updating the jobs directly rather than changing the booking. Since jobs can be edited independently, you can make the necessary adjustments without triggering a full regeneration.

If you need the booking record to match the actual job details, you can update the booking after the jobs have been completed. Completed jobs are not affected by booking changes.

Operations can also regenerate a booking's jobs on purpose, from the booking's Operations page.
