Overview

Live Vehicle Tracking shows you where your fleet vehicles are right now, on a Google map. Each vehicle appears as a marker at its last known GPS position, and the map refreshes on its own so you can watch the fleet move through the day.

Positions are reported by the in-vehicle tablet while a driver is logged in, so the map reflects vehicles that are currently out and being driven.

Availability

Live Vehicle Tracking is switched on for your organisation by the Triple D Software support team. When it is enabled, a Live Vehicle Tracking item appears in the Operations navigation. If you don't see it and you'd like to use the feature, please contact the Triple D support team to have it enabled.

Opening the map

Navigate to Operations → Live Vehicle Tracking.

The map opens centred on your depot, with a marker for each depot and a marker for each vehicle that has reported a position. If you have more than one preferred depot, the map frames them all when it first loads.

Jumping to a vehicle from the Jobs list

You can also open the map centred on a specific vehicle straight from the jobs list:

  1. Navigate to Operations → Jobs.
  2. Find the relevant job, click the Triple Dot Menu on its row, and select Show on Map.
  3. The map opens and centres on that vehicle's current position.

❕Important: Show on Map centres on the vehicle's current GPS position right now (as of its last received coordinates). The vehicle may have since moved on to a different job, so its live location won't necessarily match the job you selected on the list.

Reading the vehicle markers

Showing labels

Use the Labels toolbar to choose what text appears beside each marker:

Tick or untick each label to show or hide it.

Keeping the map up to date

The map refreshes automatically every 30 seconds. For closer-to-live updates, tick Live (5s) in the Refresh section of the toolbar — the map will then refresh every 5 seconds.

Filtering the map

Click the filter button to narrow down which vehicles are shown. The following filters are available:

When you filter by a job, booking or shift, each matching vehicle's marker also shows its Job, Booking or Shift number so you can connect the position to the work.

Where the positions come from

Positions are sent from the in-vehicle tablet while a driver is logged in. The tablet reports a new position as the vehicle moves or after a short interval, and sends more frequent updates while the vehicle is on a job. If the tablet briefly loses connection, positions are stored and sent once it's back online, so the map catches up rather than losing data.

❕Note: Tracking only runs while a driver is logged in to the tablet. A vehicle with no logged-in driver won't report a position.

❕Important: Positions are only captured while the Fleet app is running in the foreground on the tablet. If the app is minimised or another app is opened over the top, GPS tracking pauses and the vehicle stops reporting its position until the Fleet app is brought back to the front.
